Credit cards can be useful tools when used properly, but Americans are increasingly in over their heads and threatening their financial future. It is important to realize that just because you pay your minimum payment each month, does not mean that you do not have a credit problem. Low minimum payments benefit the credit card companies, not consumers. Below are some of the signs that you have credit or debt problems:

* You are not able to put money into savings

* You make only the minimum payment on your credit card

* Use to pay increasing amounts from your total income for your credit card debt

* Use credit cards for things you should buy with money, such as food
